 Diagnosis   Osteoporosis
 Name   J.A.
 Birth Year   1937
 Consult Year   1987
   From Apr-Jun 2002 issue

J.A. came to our clinic in 1987 at the age of 50 years complaining of generalized pain. She was diagnosed with DVT which is deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the veins of her legs.) She was immediately taken off of the HRT (synthetic hormones) which had been begun at age 32 due to a complete hysterectomy because HRT has been shown to be associated with DVT.

By 1990 J.A. was diagnosed with osteoporosis and she was continually suffering adult fractures. As calcium replacements, she was tried on Mycalcin and Fosomax over a period of 8 years (1990-1998). However, she was unable to tolerate any of these drugs because of severe side effects. The only alternative was to try natural progesterone which she started in 1997 before completely discontinuing any of the synthetic calcium.

Her first bone densitometry (BD) showed a T score in her lumbar spine of -2.61, or 69% normal. Her hip showed -2.79 or 64ormal. In 1999 after starting on the natural progesterone, her lumber spine T score was improved to -1.95, and her left hip stayed virtually the same at -2.81. In 2000, the lumbar spine had risen to -1.0 or 900f normal and is considered to be normal. The left hip was unchanged in 2000. In 2002, bone BD's showed the lumbar spine to be -0.9, or normal, and the left hip to be improved with -1.8 or 80%.

These studies would suggest that J.A. had developed severe osteoporosis in spite of prolonged Hormone Replacement Therapy and/or synthetic calcium replacements. There is no doubt in my mind that the decision to start natural progesterone significantly benefited the patient. She freely admits that the quality of her life has improved which she feels is totally due to the use of natural progesterone.

 Diagnosis   Osteoporosis
 Name   D.D.
 Birth Year
 Consult Year   1998
   From Jul-Sep 2002 issue

In 1998 D.D. had a dexiscan which showed that she had significant osteoporosis of the left hip. The T score, which represents bone density compared to a young adult, was -2.75 with a bone mass of 69%. This is indicative of severe osteoporosis. At that time, the patient was begun on natural progesterone cream, and subsequent dexiscans in 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 have shown a continuing T score improvement ranging from the original -2.75 to a near normal -1.7. (A T score of -1 to 0 is considered normal. A score of -1 to -2.5 shows osteopenia which is early osteoporosis. Beyond -2.5 is defined as osteoporosis and has a marked risk for fractures.)

D.D. has used the progesterone cream for four years, and the most recent studies of her lumbar spine have also shown great improvement. We feel this experience with D.D. is continuing proof of the effectiveness of natural progesterone.

 Diagnosis   Osteopenia
 Name   A.M.
 Birth Year
 Consult Year   1999
   From Oct-Dec 2002 issue

In 1999 A.M's dexiscan showed she had osteopenia. Her hip T score was -2.1, and her lower spine score was -1.1. (A T score represents bone density compared to a young adult. Scores of 1 to -1 are considered normal, and scores of -1 to -2.5 show osteopenia which is early osteoporosis. Beyond -2.5 is defined as osteoporosis and has a marked risk for fractures.) At that time in 1999, the patient was begun on a Natural Progesterone cream therapy, and subsequent dexiscans in 2000, 2001, and 2002 have shown a continuing T score improvement. In 2000, her hip read -1.5, and her lower spine was still at -1.1. The results for 2001 showed -1.2 for her hip and -0.7 in the lower spine.

This year's results show A.M. back to near normal with T scores of -1.2 for her hip and -0.2 in the lower spine. Obviously, A.M. is quite pleased and will stay on this formula.

 Diagnosis   Osteoporosis
 Name   S.C.
 Birth Year   1927
 Consult Year   1985
From May - August 2003 issue

S.C. began using natural progesterone upon the advice of Dr. Cannon in the early part of 1998. Her first baseline dexiscan was not taken until early 2000. The scores showed her hip (femur) was at –3.1 which is 68% normal bone mass. Her spine was –3.4, or 66% of normal bone mass.

In 2001, her hip reading improved to –2.9, or 70% of normal bone mass. Her spine was not tested at that time. By the middle of 2002, her hip had improved to –2.4, 71% of normal. Her spine was up to –3.0 which is 68% of normal.

Even within only 2 years, the improvement is very good, and Dr. Cannon expects this to continue throughout her lifetime as long as she continues the natural progesterone, calcium citrate, good diet and some exercise.

 Diagnosis   Osteoporosis
 Name   E.C.
 Birth Year   1935
 Consult Year   1998
   From Sep-Dec 2003 issue

E.C. started using natural Progesterone in June of 1998. From a bone density test taken in September of 2001, both her spine and hip scores were –2.8 indicating severe osteoporosis. A year and a half later her left spine is at –1.8 and her hip is at –2.7.

Her next density test is scheduled for early next year. Our experience with other cases shows that the other score will improve as the body targets other areas in need of density support.

 Diagnosis   Osteoporosis
 Name   D.W.
 Birth Year   1924
 Consult Year   2003
   From May-Aug 2004 issue

This case shows the typical improvement we see in bone density dexa scans for a patient with severe osteoporosis. This is only a span of one year using Natural Progesterone along with magneseum and calcium supplements.

The last two dexiscans for D.W. scores at age 79 and 80 read as follows:

Date Spine Femur
Feb 2003 -4.4 -3.3
Mar 2004 -4.1 -3.3

As is normal, the body sent the repairs to the bones most in need; in this case, the spine.  This is a wonderful improvement for one year, and D.W. will continue to show increases in her T-scores until she is above -1.0 as long as she continues this regimen.

 Diagnosis   Osteoporosis
 Name   J.A.
 Birth Year   1937
 Consult Year   1987
From Sep - Dec 2004 issue

Two-Year Update on J.A.

In April of 2002 we reported a remarkable case history for J.A. She arrived in my office in 1987 at age 50 complaining of generalized pain. After a diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis, (blood clots in the veins of her legs), she immediately halted the synthetic hormone therapy which had been started 18 years before due to a complete hysterectomy.

In 1990 she was diagnosed with osteoporosis and was suffering from adult fractures. Synthetic calcium replacements were tried for a period of several years which she found intolerable because of severe side effects. Our only other alternative was to try natural progesterone. This was begun in 1997.

Now that it has been another two years since reporting on her condition, below is an updated chart of her bone density test scores.

DateSpineHip
1998-2.61-2.79
1999-1.95-2.81
2000-1.0-2.81
2002-0.9-1.8
2003-0.7-2.8
2004-0.5-2.7

You will notice the score on J.A.’s hip went up from ‘02 to ‘03 She stopped the natural progesterone for that year and did not begin again until mid 2003. Her T-score for 2004 shows another improvement. The data above speaks for itself as to the positive effects of natural progesterone.

Remember, natural progesterone did not help J.A.’s condition by itself. It is the combination of natural progesterone with calcium CITRATE at 1000 to 1500 mg daily, magnesium at 350 to 500 mg daily, zinc at 15 to 35 mg daily, Vitamin D at 300 to 400 IU daily, and Vitamin E at 400 IU daily, Vitamin B6 at 50 mg daily, Vitamin C at 2000 mg daily, and beta-carotene at 15 mg daily. And last, but not least, moderate exercise. On the other hand, you can take all the vitamins and minerals listed here without the natural progesterone and your bones will not grow.

Furthermore, as our US diet is so high in phosphates, no supplementation is necessary. In fact, it is a very good idea to stay away from things such as all carbonated beverages and limit red meat to maybe once or twice a week, unless you buy chemical free beef and chicken.
