Cannon Medical Clinic provides a “medical home” to people with acute and chronic illnesses needing regular medical supervision and medications. Volunteer physicians and a staff nurse practitioner provide this care during scheduled clinics several times each week. RAFC is not able to provide Emergency Services.

Specialty Care

Individuals needing specialty care such as cardiology, orthopedic, surgical, gynecological and others may receive such care in the offices of specialists who accept referrals from the Rockbridge Area Free Clinic.


Cannon Medical Clinic provides access to pharmaceuticals through its in-house licensed pharmacy. Prescriptions written by RAFC physicians are filled in the pharmacy.

Patient Education

The Free Clinic offers instruction based upon patient needs. Classes on oral health, weight loss, nutrition and diabetes management are available on an as needed basis.

Group Visits

Diabetic group visits – involves a group of 15 patients. Patient assessment will be done to include vital signs, medication updates & renewals and foot exams. Medical evaluation by Nurse Practitioner. Diabetic counseling by Registered Dietician. Healthy meal preparation and planning. Group visits are planned and held by RAFC nursing and pharmacy staff and pre-med students.

The Free Clinic does not provide

  • Treatment for mental illness.
  • Birth control
  • pregnancy tests
  • testing for STDs including HIV, TB tests – please contact your local Health Department
  • Pre-school physicals
  • Disability physicals
  • Worker’s compensation cases or related injuries

Programs are available for the special needs of our patients:

Falmouth Family Planning provides confidential education, health services, counseling, and HIV/AIDS testing to women and men, adults and teens. Family Planning services are provided at our Falmouth location.

Community Care for Depression provides assessments and referrals for ongoing treatment for people with depression, anxiety and addictions.

Specialty clinics in diabetes, heart disease, psychiatry, OB/GYN, and hematology provide physician care, education and patient and family support.

Comprehensive diabetes care encompasses all aspects of patients’ care, including medical and specialty care, patient and family support and education, medication assistance, and data collection and management.

Veterans’ Partnership provides primary care services for veterans in cooperation with local veterans’ agencies.

Specialty Network for Uninsured connects low-income, uninsured people with the services of a medical specialist and related diagnostic procedures.
